Hosting an Abiotic Factor server
Abiotic Factor is a co-op survival crafting game from Deep Field Games, published by Playstack. Your team of scientists is trapped in an underground research facility after a containment breach, with a 90s sci-fi feel and a lot of improvised gear. It reached 1.0 in July 2025 and is on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with full crossplay.
Deep Field Games provides a free dedicated server for Windows through SteamCMD. It defaults to 6 players, the group size the game is balanced around, and the limit can be raised with a launch parameter. A dedicated server keeps the facility running for everyone, so nobody has to stay in the game as host.
What to compare
- Crossplay settings. Dedicated servers accept Steam, PlayStation and Xbox players by default, and can be limited to one platform with a launch parameter. Check the host lets you edit launch options.
- Sandbox settings. Difficulty, enemy spawns, survival needs, damage and building rules live in
SandboxSettings.ini. Look for file access or a panel that covers the whole file.
- Player slots. Six is the default. Groups can go higher, but the game was not designed for it, and more players mean more load and faster use of resources.
- Save backups. A facility full of bases and progress is worth protecting. Automatic backups and restores matter, especially before major updates.
- Admin access. Moderators are set by Steam ID in the server's
Admin.ini.
- Updates. Servers must match the client version across every platform, so prompt updates keep console and PC players connecting.
- Location. Pick a datacentre close to the group for smooth combat against the facility's creatures.

Abiotic Factor server hosting FAQ
How many players can join an Abiotic Factor server?
The game is designed for 1 to 6 players and dedicated servers default to 6. The limit can be raised through the server's launch parameters, but larger groups are beyond what the game is balanced for.
Do Abiotic Factor dedicated servers support crossplay?
Yes. Since 1.0, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can join the same dedicated server, unless the owner restricts it to one platform.
Can I host an Abiotic Factor server for free?
Yes. The dedicated server is a free download through SteamCMD for Windows. The facility is only online while that machine is running, so groups who play at different times often rent one.
Can I change difficulty and world settings on a hosted server?
Yes. Most gameplay options are in SandboxSettings.ini, so choose a host that gives you access to it.
