What matters for a DayZ server
DayZ's server does a lot of work in a single thread, so clock speed matters more than core count. It also keeps a persistent record of every player's gear, every item on the map and every base structure, and that data grows on a busy server. A plan with strong single-core performance and fast storage will feel far better than one with lots of cores on slower hardware.
What to compare
- RAM for your setup. Community guidance suggests around 6 GB for a vanilla server of up to 30 players, and 8 to 10 GB or more for modded servers with traders, extra maps and popular packs such as DayZ Expansion.
- CPU speed. Because the entity and physics work is largely single-threaded, a fast processor helps more than extra cores.
- Fast storage. Loot respawns and persistence saves generate a lot of disk activity, so NVMe storage is a real advantage.
- Workshop mods. DayZ mods are installed through Steam Workshop and loaded with the launch parameters. Check that the host lets you manage mods and the launch line without a support ticket.
- Config and economy files. Loot tables, spawn rates and purge settings are edited in server files, so direct access matters if you want a custom economy.
- Backups and wipes. Persistence is what makes a DayZ world feel alive, so choose a host that makes backups and controlled wipes easy.
- DDoS protection. Public servers are frequent targets.

DayZ server hosting FAQ
How much RAM does a DayZ server need?
A vanilla server for up to 30 players often starts around 6 GB. Modded servers with traders and large mod packs commonly need 8 to 10 GB or more.
Can I run mods like DayZ Expansion?
Yes, on hosts that give you Workshop mod support and control over the launch parameters.
Why does CPU speed matter so much?
Much of the server's simulation runs on a single thread, so a fast core keeps the world responsive when many players and AI are active.
Do I have to pay for DayZ server files?
No. Anyone who owns DayZ can download the DayZ Server files through Steam at no extra cost and run a server at home. Renting pays for the hardware, bandwidth and uptime instead.
