Hosting a Citadel: Forged with Fire server
Citadel: Forged with Fire is a sandbox fantasy RPG from Blue Isle Studios, fully released on PC in November 2019 after Early Access. Players are apprentice spellcasters who learn magic, tame creatures, fly on brooms and build castles, then band together in Houses to fight rival players or take on dungeons and monsters. A single-player mode exists, but the game is built around shared worlds where Houses build and war over time.
Private servers run on the free Citadel dedicated server, downloaded through SteamCMD. The world, player limit and server rules are set in the server's Game.ini, and the server stores everyone's castles, creatures and progress. That makes uptime, memory and backups the things that matter most when you rent one.
What to compare
- RAM for a busy world. Large castles, tamed creatures and a full server push memory use well up over the life of a world. Pick a plan with room to grow.
- CPU for magic-heavy fights. Spell effects, flying combat and many structures in one area load the server. Look for consistent per-core performance.
- Config access. Experience and harvesting rates, PvP rules, building limits and player slots are set in Game.ini.
- PvP or PvE rules. Decide whether your server is for House warfare or co-operative play, and check you can change the rules without a reinstall.
- Backups. Castles and tamed creatures take weeks to build up. Automatic backups and easy restores protect the world from crashes and griefing.
- Location. Choose a datacentre close to most of your players for smoother aerial and spell combat.

Citadel: Forged with Fire server hosting FAQ
How many players can a Citadel server hold?
The player limit is set in the server's Game.ini. Bigger populations need more RAM, so size the plan to your expected peak.
Can I run a PvE Citadel server?
Yes. PvP rules are part of the server configuration, so you can run a co-operative world or one built around House warfare.
Can PlayStation or Xbox players join a hosted server?
No. Rented Citadel servers are for the PC version on Steam.
Can I host a Citadel: Forged with Fire server for free?
Yes. The dedicated server is a free SteamCMD download, so you can run it on your own machine. It is only online while that machine is on, so groups who play at different times usually rent one.
