How To Host A Satisfactory Dedicated Server

Set up a Satisfactory 1.2 dedicated server on Windows or Linux: SteamCMD install, ports 7777 and 8888, claiming it in the Server Manager, saves, updates and when renting is easier.

A Satisfactory dedicated server keeps your factory running for your group without anyone's game being open. This guide follows the official Satisfactory wiki's dedicated server pages and a test install we ran on 4 October 2026. It is for Satisfactory 1.2, out since 2 June 2026; the latest fix when we checked was v1.2.4.0.

What You Need

The official wiki's requirements:

Requirement
System 64-bit Windows 10, 11 or Server 2016/2019/2022, or 64-bit Linux (Debian or Ubuntu). No ARM or 32-bit
CPU x86-64, Intel i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or better
Memory 8 GB minimum; 16 GB for larger saves or four or more players
Storage 12.4 GB on Windows, 8 GB on Linux

Our Windows test install came to 14.5 GB. Freshly started, before a save was loaded, the server used about 0.3 GB; a big factory is what fills the memory.

Install The Server With SteamCMD

The Satisfactory Dedicated Server is app 1690800 and downloads with an anonymous login:

steamcmd +force_install_dir ~/SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit

On Windows, use steamcmd.exe and a Windows folder such as C:\SatisfactoryServer. It is also in the Tools section of your Steam library. Add -beta experimental to run the experimental branch.

Ports And Firewall

Since update 1.1 the server uses two ports:

Port Protocol Used for
7777 TCP and UDP Game traffic, and the server's HTTPS API on TCP
8888 TCP Reliable messaging

Our test server listened on exactly these: UDP 7777, TCP 7777 and TCP 8888. Forward all three on your router and allow them through the firewall. The wiki says the 7777 port cannot be remapped to a different external port; the reliable port can be, with -ExternalReliablePort=. The old 15000 and 15777 ports from 1.0 are no longer used.

Configure The Server

Satisfactory sets up its server from inside the game, not from a file:

  1. In Satisfactory, open the Server Manager and add your server by its IP address and port.
  2. The first time you connect, you claim it: give it a name and set the admin password.
  3. Create a new session or upload a save, then choose the settings: player password, auto-pause when empty, autosave on disconnect, the autosave interval, a daily restart time, and network quality.

A few launch options are useful:

Option What it does
-Port=7777 Changes the game port
-ReliablePort=8888 Changes the reliable port
-log Shows the console log
-unattended Stops the server waiting on dialogs
-ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8 Changes the player limit through a game setting

Start The Server

  • Windows: run FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended in the server folder.
  • Linux: run ./FactoryServer.sh in the server folder.

Our test server was listening on its ports about 5 seconds after starting. To check one is up, the wiki suggests sending a request to https://<server-ip>:7777; our test server's API answered that it was healthy.

Join Your Server

Players add the server in the Server Manager with its IP address and port, then join from there. Satisfactory has no public browser of other people's servers. Players on the Steam and Epic versions can join the same server, whichever store the server came from. There are no dedicated servers for the console versions.

Saves, Backups And Updates

Where saves live

System Folder
Windows %LocalAppData%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server
Windows, running as a service %WINDIR%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server
Linux ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server

The server's own settings are kept next to them in a file named ServerSettings.<port>.sav; on our test server that was ServerSettings.7777.sav. On a Windows PC that also has the game, these sit beside your own single-player saves, in a separate folder.

Moving a save to the server

Upload a save from the Manage Saves tab in the Server Manager, then load it.

Updates

Run the SteamCMD install command again, or let Steam update it if you installed it from your library. Players and the server need the same game version.

Common Problems

Players cannot connect

Check all three: TCP 7777, UDP 7777 and TCP 8888, forwarded to the right machine and allowed through the firewall. The wiki lists port forwarding as the most common problem.

Is the server even running?

On Windows, look for it in Task Manager; on Linux, pgrep -f FactoryServer.sh. To check its ports, the wiki suggests Get-NetUDPEndpoint in PowerShell on Windows or ss -plnut | grep FactoryServer on Linux.

I upgraded from 1.0 and nothing connects

Since 1.1 the server uses 7777 and 8888. Ports 15000 and 15777 are no longer used, so update your port forwarding.

SteamCMD says "Missing configuration"

In our tests SteamCMD sometimes failed this way on the first run, then installed the server when we ran the same command again.

Or Rent A Server Instead

A large factory needs a fast processor and up to 16 GB of memory, all running while you are away. A rented Satisfactory server runs on the host's hardware, and you manage it from the game's Server Manager exactly the same way. Compare memory, locations and what each host includes before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ports does a Satisfactory server use?

TCP and UDP 7777, and TCP 8888, since update 1.1. Forward all three.

How much RAM does a Satisfactory server need?

The official wiki asks for 8 GB, and 16 GB for larger saves or four or more players.

How do I set the admin password?

Add the server in the game's Server Manager and claim it the first time you connect: that is where you name it and set the admin password.

Can Epic and Steam players play on the same server?

Yes. Players on both stores can join the same dedicated server.

Is there a Satisfactory dedicated server for consoles?

No. The official wiki says dedicated servers are not available for console.

Do I need to own Satisfactory to run a dedicated server?

No. The dedicated server downloads with an anonymous SteamCMD login. Players still need the game to join.
