Hosting a HumanitZ server
HumanitZ is an isometric open-world zombie survival game from Yodubzz Studios, published by indie.io. Players scavenge, craft, build bases, farm and drive across a map overrun by "zeeks", in co-op or PvP. It left Early Access with its 1.0 release in February 2026, which reworked skill trees and added a new endgame area.
The HumanitZ dedicated server is a free download through SteamCMD. All of its settings sit in one file, GameServerSettings.ini, covering the server name, password, player limit and world options such as difficulty, zombie numbers and the starting season. A rented server keeps the world alive between sessions, and servers are commonly run with up to 24 players.
What to compare
- Full access to GameServerSettings.ini. Nearly everything that shapes a HumanitZ world is in this one file. A host that only exposes a few panel fields will hold you back.
- Sizing for your group. Small co-op groups need far less than a busy PvP server. Compare RAM and CPU against the player count you actually expect.
- Fresh starts after big updates. Major updates such as 1.0 can require a new save. Check the host makes it simple to back up the old world and start a new one.
- Backups and restores. Bases, vehicles and stockpiles are hard to rebuild. Automatic backups protect against crashes and bad updates.
- PvP and DDoS protection. Public PvP servers attract attacks, so protection is worth having on an open server.
- Update speed. The server must match the game version, so a host that updates promptly avoids locked-out players after a patch.
- Location. Combat and proximity voice chat both work better with low ping. Choose a datacentre near your players.

Did HumanitZ 1.0 wipe existing servers?
The 1.0 release in February 2026 brought large changes, and older saves may not carry over. Back up your world before any major update.
Can I host a HumanitZ server for free?
Yes. The dedicated server is free through SteamCMD, so you can run it on your own PC. The world is only online while that machine is on, which is the main reason groups rent one.
Can I run a PvP HumanitZ server?
Yes. HumanitZ supports online PvP on dedicated servers as well as co-op, and the rules are set in the server's settings.
