Hosting a Reign of Kings server
Reign of Kings is a medieval survival game from Code Hatch (styled Code}{atch). Players gather, craft and build from thatch up to reinforced stone, form guilds, capture and imprison rivals, and fight to claim the Ancient Throne. Sieges use trebuchets and ballistas against fortified bases, so PvP is the heart of most servers. It released on Steam in December 2015.
Community servers run the Reign of Kings dedicated server, and most add plugins through Oxide, the legacy framework now listed on uMod, for kits, chat tools, crest protection and admin utilities. Settings such as PvP rules, decay timers and the player limit are worth checking before you pick a host, because they define what kind of kingdom your server becomes.
What to compare
- CPU for sieges. Siege engines, collapsing walls and large guild fights load the server at once. A strong CPU keeps those moments playable.
- Oxide plugin support. If you want plugins, confirm the host supports Oxide for Reign of Kings and lets you upload and configure plugins over FTP or a file manager.
- Rules and decay settings. PvP rules, decay timers and welcome messages shape the server. Look for full config access rather than a handful of panel fields.
- Backups. Castles take weeks to build and minutes to lose to a bad update or exploit. Automatic backups and simple restores matter.
- DDoS protection. Throne fights and public PvP draw attention, and attacks along with it.
- Location. Melee timing and archery suffer with high ping, so choose a datacentre close to most of your players.

Reign of Kings server hosting FAQ
How many players can a Reign of Kings server hold?
The player limit is set in the server settings, and hosts sell plans by slot count. Larger populations mean bigger sieges, so check the hardware behind the plan as well as the slots.
Can I run plugins on a RoK server?
Yes, on hosts that support Oxide. Reign of Kings plugins cover kits, chat, crest protection and admin tools.
Can I run a PvE or roleplay server?
Yes. PvP rules, decay and other settings are configurable, and plugins can add further rules for roleplay communities.
Can I host a Reign of Kings server for free?
Yes, if you run it yourself. The dedicated server is on SteamCMD (app 381690), though it needs a Steam account login rather than anonymous access. It is only online while your machine is, which is why public RoK servers are usually rented.
