About the Project Zomboid server list
Where the servers come from
We read Steam's public Project Zomboid server list every few hours and keep the busiest public servers: up to 300 that have had three or more players in at least half of our checks over the last week. Servers that are hidden from the in-game browser, hosted from a player's game, whitelist-only or still using a default name are left out, and a server drops off after 14 days without players.
What each server shows
Whether it is PvP, needs a password or only lets in whitelisted accounts, how many mods it runs, its game version and, when the server reports it, the date of its last wipe. It all comes from Steam and the server itself, and we never collect player names.
Claimed communities
Owners claim a server by putting a short code in its name for a few minutes. Once we see it, they can add a description, rules, wipe plans and a Discord link, and show above unclaimed servers.
How to choose a Project Zomboid server
PvE or PvP
Every listing shows whether players can hurt each other, as the server reports it. PvP servers often have safehouse and faction rules, so read the description first.
Count the mods
Modded servers make you download every mod before you join. A server with a hundred mods can take a while the first time.
Match the build
Build 42 and Build 41 servers do not mix. Each listing shows the version its server reports.
Check the last wipe
A fresh wipe means everyone starts equal. A server that wiped months ago has established bases and empty towns.
Open or password
Some communities share a password on their Discord. Use the Open filter to join straight away.
Look at the busiest hours
The player charts show whether a server is busy when you play, not just right now.
Project Zomboid server list FAQ
How is this Project Zomboid server list ordered?
+
By the players we observe on each server. Claimed communities appear first, then unclaimed servers, busiest first. Sponsored Server placements are labelled and never change this order.
Why are some big servers missing?
+
We only list servers that are public in the in-game browser and open to new players. Servers set to hidden, whitelist-only servers and games hosted from a player's own client are left out. Owners can still add theirs.
Where do the player counts come from?
+
From Steam's public server list and the server's own public query. A count older than 15 minutes is not shown: a missing count means unknown, not zero. We never collect player names.
How do I join a server from this list?
+
In Project Zomboid, choose Join, open the Internet tab and search for the server name, or add it to Favorites with the IP and port on the server page. The game downloads the server's Workshop mods when you connect, and your game must be on the same version as the server.
Are these Build 42 servers?
+
Build 42 has been the stable version of Project Zomboid since 29 July 2026, and almost every public server runs it. Each listing shows the version its server reports.
How do I add or claim my Project Zomboid server?
+
If it is listed, open it and click "Claim this server", then put the short code we give you in your server's PublicName for a few minutes. As soon as we see it, the server is yours. If it is not listed, use "List Your Project Zomboid Server" with its IP address and port. Listings are free.
Does TopServer.Network host Project Zomboid servers?
+
No. We compare hosting providers. If you want to run your own server, see our Project Zomboid server hosting comparison.
