Hosting a server for The Front
The Front is an open-world survival crafting sandbox from Samar Studio. You play a resistance fighter in a post-apocalyptic world, building fortified bases with traps, crafting weapons and over 20 vehicles including tanks and helicopters, recruiting NPC followers and raiding other players. It left Early Access in October 2025 and supports online PvP and co-op.
Samar Studio provides a free dedicated server through SteamCMD, and community servers set their own rules, such as PvP raiding, PvE co-op, boosted rates or long-running worlds. Servers are sold by player slots, but the real cost of a busy server comes from large bases, vehicles and NPCs spread over a big map, so hardware matters as much as the slot count.
What to compare
- CPU and RAM for big builds. Heavily trapped bases, parked vehicles and NPC followers all add load as a server matures. Compare real resources, not just slots.
- Config access. Server rules, rates and gameplay options are set in the server's ini configuration. Check you can edit the files directly or through a panel that covers them.
- PvP or PvE setup. Decide on raiding rules and protection before launch, and choose a host that makes those settings easy to change later.
- Wipes and backups. PvP servers often wipe on a schedule, while PvE worlds run for months. Look for automatic backups, easy restores and a simple way to start a fresh world.
- Updates. The server must match the client version, so a host that updates promptly keeps players from being locked out after a patch.
- DDoS protection. Public raiding servers attract attacks. Protection is a sensible baseline.
- Location. Vehicle combat and raids feel worse with high ping. Pick a datacentre close to most of your players.

The Front server hosting FAQ
How many players can a server for The Front hold?
The player limit is a server setting rather than a fixed number in the game. Bigger populations need more CPU and RAM, so size the plan to the peak you expect.
Can I host a server for The Front for free?
Yes, if you run the free dedicated server from SteamCMD on your own machine. It is only online while that machine is on.
Can I run a PvE server?
Yes. Community servers choose their own rules, so you can set up a co-op PvE world instead of a raiding server.
Why does my server for The Front slow down over time?
Bases, traps, vehicles and NPC followers build up as a world ages. A plan with headroom, regular restarts or a scheduled wipe usually helps.
