Hosting a VEIN server
VEIN is a post-apocalyptic zombie survival sandbox from Ramjet Studios. Players scavenge abandoned towns, fortify a home, keep vehicles running, farm and hunt through changing seasons, in co-op or PvP. It has been in Early Access since October 2025, with a playable area of roughly 4 by 4 kilometres across four towns and a much larger map planned, so expect frequent updates.
Ramjet provides a free dedicated server through SteamCMD. Server name, password, admins and player slots are kept in Game.ini, and gameplay options such as PvP are changed from the in-game admin menu. A rented server keeps the world, and every barricade and stockpile in it, running between sessions.
What to compare
- Fast, frequent updates. Early Access patches land often and the server must match the client. Choose a host that updates the dedicated server quickly so players are not locked out.
- Backups before every patch. Early Access updates can change world data. Automatic backups and simple restores protect a long-running base if an update goes wrong.
- RAM headroom. Memory use grows with connected players, active mods and how much of the map is in use. Leave room to upgrade as the game and your group grow.
- Config and admin access. You need to edit
Game.ini for admins, whitelists and server details, and reach the admin menu for gameplay settings. Check the panel allows both.
- Moving worlds. If you started on your own PC, look for a host that lets you upload an existing world.
- PvP protection. Public PvP servers attract attacks, so DDoS protection is worth having if your server is open to everyone.
- Location. Pick a datacentre close to your players for smooth combat and driving.

VEIN server hosting FAQ
How many players can a VEIN server hold?
The player limit is a server setting in Game.ini rather than a fixed cap in the game. More players need more memory and CPU, so size the plan for your busiest evening.
Is VEIN still in Early Access?
Yes. VEIN entered Early Access in October 2025 and Ramjet Studios expects development to continue for several years, so servers see regular updates.
Can I host a VEIN server for free?
Yes. The dedicated server is a free download through SteamCMD. The world is only online while your machine is running it, which is why many groups rent a server instead.
Can I turn PvP on or off?
Yes. PvP is one of the gameplay settings changed through the in-game admin menu, so co-op groups can run a PvE world.
