Hosting a Black Mesa server

Black Mesa is Crowbar Collective's remake of Half-Life, built on the Source engine and fully released on Steam on 6 March 2020.

Alongside the single-player campaign it has online multiplayer deathmatch across 10 maps from the Half-Life universe, including Bounce, Gasworks, Stalkyard, Undertow and Crossfire. Players can make their own maps and mods with the Black Mesa Source SDK and share them on the Steam Workshop.

What to compare

  • Slots and price. Deathmatch servers rarely need a big plan, so compare the cost per slot.
  • Custom maps. Check you can add Workshop maps and set your own rotation.
  • File access. FTP or file manager access makes server configs and plugins easier to manage.
  • Location. Fast deathmatch needs low ping, so pick a datacentre near your players.
