Hosting a MORDHAU server
MORDHAU is a medieval first and third person melee game from Triternion, released on Steam in 2019. It is built around battles of up to 64 players in Frontline and Invasion, with smaller Skirmish and Deathmatch rounds and a co-op Horde mode alongside. The game is also on PlayStation and Xbox, but crossplay there is between consoles only, so community servers are a PC affair.
The free MORDHAU Dedicated Server Tool installs through SteamCMD on Windows or Linux. Server name, slot count, passwords, admins and map rotation all live in Game.ini, and mods from mod.io are added by ID and downloaded by the server when it starts.
What to compare
- CPU for big fights. A full 64-player Frontline map with cavalry, siege engines and constant melee is far heavier than a small duel server. Fast single-core performance matters more than piles of RAM.
- Slots that suit the mode. Frontline and Invasion want 48 to 64 players, while Skirmish, Deathmatch and duel servers play well with far fewer. Pay for the slots you will actually fill.
- Game.ini access. Admins, map rotation and passwords are set in Game.ini, so look for direct file access or a panel that exposes those settings.
- mod.io maps and mods. Many community servers run custom maps and mods. Check the host lets you add mod IDs and handles the download on start-up.
- Updates. After a game patch the server needs updating before players can join, so a host that updates promptly matters.
- Ping and protection. Parries, chambers and feints are all about timing, so pick a datacentre near your players. Busy public servers also attract DDoS attacks.
