Hosting an Empyrion: Galactic Survival server
Empyrion is a space survival game where players build ships and bases across planets and star systems. Its worlds are organised into playfields, which are separate areas such as a planet surface or a space region, and the server loads the ones players are in. That makes memory use grow with how many playfields are active, rather than just with the player count.
What to compare
- RAM and CPU for active playfields. A server with several groups spread across different planets and systems needs more than one where everyone stays together. Ask the provider for a recommendation based on your player count and how spread out they will be.
- Storage. Ships, bases and playfields take up disk space, so choose a plan with room for saves and backups.
- Scenarios and mods. Empyrion has custom scenarios and Workshop content. Check the host lets you install and manage them, and that they suit your game version.
- Server settings. Difficulty, PvP rules, base and ship limits and resource rates are configured in server files, so direct access or a capable panel matters.
- Backups. Large ships and bases represent a lot of time, so automatic backups and easy restores are valuable.
- Updates. Empyrion updates regularly and mods depend on the version, so choose a host that keeps the server matched and helps with compatibility.
- Location and DDoS protection. Public servers attract attacks, and PvP is sensitive to latency.

Empyrion server hosting FAQ
What is a playfield?
It is a separate area of the game world, such as a planet or a region of space. The server loads the playfields players are in.
Does the player count decide server size?
Not only. How spread out players are across playfields also affects memory use.
Can I use custom scenarios?
Yes, on hosts that support them. Check how content is installed and updated.
