Hosting a Hellion server
Hellion is a multiplayer space survival game from Zero Gravity. You wake from a century in cryosleep among the ruins of humanity's first interstellar colony, then search derelict ships and stations for air, fuel and equipment, or take what you need from other survivors. It entered Early Access in February 2017 and left it in October 2019.
When it left Early Access, Zero Gravity said player numbers were too low to fund further development. It kept the game on sale and handed control of the official servers to Hellion's Discord moderators. Renting your own server gives your group a world that does not depend on anyone else keeping it online.
What to compare
- Price for your group size. Hellion no longer gets regular updates, so you are paying for uptime and slots. Compare the monthly cost against how many of you play.
- Backups. Ships, stations and blueprints take hours to build. Automatic backups and simple restores protect that work.
- File access. Check you can edit the server's settings yourself rather than waiting on support.
- Location. Pick a datacentre near your players so docking and combat stay responsive.
