Hosting a Killing Floor 2 server
Killing Floor 2 is Tripwire Interactive's co-op zombie shooter, released in 2016, where a squad of up to six players picks perks and survives waves of Zeds before facing a boss. It also has a 6v6 Versus mode plus Endless and Objective modes, and the Steam and Epic Games Store PC versions can play together.
The Killing Floor 2 Dedicated Server Tool is free through SteamCMD, and its server files are built for Windows. Settings sit in PCServer-KFGame.ini and PCServer-KFEngine.ini, and the server includes a WebAdmin panel for changing difficulty, game length, maps and Workshop content from a browser. Custom maps are added by Workshop ID and downloaded by the server.
What to compare
- Single-core CPU. Late waves fill the map with Zeds, and their pathing and hit detection lean on one core. A fast CPU keeps Hell on Earth playable.
- WebAdmin and file access. WebAdmin covers most day-to-day changes, but mutators and map lists still mean editing the ini files. Look for both.
- Workshop maps. Custom maps are a big part of KF2. Check the host lets you add Workshop IDs and has the storage for a long map list.
- Slot count. Vanilla co-op is six players and Versus is twelve. Community servers with mutators can go higher, so compare plans by the slots you will fill.
- Mutators. If you want custom mutators, confirm the host lets you upload and enable them.
- Location. Ping matters when a Fleshpound charges, so pick a datacentre close to your squad.

Killing Floor 2 server hosting FAQ
How many players can a KF2 server hold?
Six in standard co-op and twelve in 6v6 Versus. Some community servers raise the limit with mutators, which adds load.
Can I add custom maps to a Killing Floor 2 server?
Yes. Workshop maps are added by their Workshop ID through WebAdmin or PCServer-KFEngine.ini, then listed in PCServer-KFGame.ini so they appear in the map cycle.
Can Epic Games Store players join a Steam server?
Yes. The Steam and Epic versions of KF2 support crossplay with each other on PC.
Can I host a Killing Floor 2 server for free?
Yes, if you run the free Dedicated Server Tool yourself on a Windows machine. It is only online while that machine is on, so groups who play at different times usually rent one.
