Hosting a No More Room in Hell server

No More Room in Hell is a free co-op zombie survival game on the Source engine, made by the No More Room in Hell Team and released on Steam in 2013 after starting life as an award-winning mod. Up to eight players work through objective maps or hold a shelter in Survival, with scarce ammo, no crosshair and infection that can turn a teammate. This is the original NMRiH, separate from the sequel No More Room in Hell 2.

The No More Room in Hell Dedicated Server Tool is free through SteamCMD for Windows and Linux. The game now supports the Steam Workshop for custom maps, and as a Source game it works with SourceMod and Metamod:Source for admin tools and custom rules.

What to compare

  • Custom maps. Workshop and community maps keep runs fresh. Check the host makes it easy to add maps and offers FastDL for quicker downloads.
  • SourceMod support. Admin tools, map voting and gameplay tweaks run as plugins, so make sure you can install and update them.
  • CPU for hordes. Objective and Survival maps fill with zombies, and the server handles every one of them. Strong single-core performance keeps eight-player games smooth.
  • Config access. Difficulty, game mode, map cycle and admin lists are set in config files, so direct file access saves time.
  • Small slot counts. The game is built for eight players, so there is no need to pay for large slot plans.
  • Location. Melee timing and shoving zombies off a teammate both depend on ping, so pick a datacentre near your group.

No More Room in Hell server hosting FAQ

How many players can a No More Room in Hell server hold?

The game is designed for co-op with up to eight players.

Can I add custom maps to an NMRiH server?

Yes. No More Room in Hell supports the Steam Workshop, and custom maps can be installed on the server. SourceMod plugins add admin tools and rule changes.

Is this the same as No More Room in Hell 2?

No. No More Room in Hell 2 is a separate game. This hosting is for the original free Source engine game.

Can I host a No More Room in Hell server for free?

Yes. The game and its Dedicated Server Tool are both free, on Windows and Linux. A self-hosted server is only online while that machine is on, so groups who want it always available usually rent one.
