Hosting a Renown server
Renown is a first-person medieval survival game from RDBK Studios, a small Australian team, and it entered Early Access on Steam in September 2025. Players gather, build strongholds, form clans and fight with skill-based melee combat, raiding each other's bases in a way that has earned it comparisons with Rust. There is no single-player mode, so the server is the game.
Alongside the official servers, Renown supports community servers. The dedicated server files come through SteamCMD for Windows and Linux, and gameplay settings such as player limit, passwords, map, first-person enforcement and resource and crafting rates are set in the server's Game.ini. Official servers run with up to 100 players and wipe on a regular schedule, and a community server lets you choose your own population and wipe rhythm.
What to compare
- CPU for big fights. Sieges with many players, structures and melee hit checks hit the processor hard. Look for strong per-core performance.
- RAM headroom as bases grow. Memory use climbs with player count and the number of structures on the map, so leave room to upgrade.
- Config and file access. Player limits, rates and server rules live in Game.ini and Engine.ini, so you want direct file access or a panel that exposes them.
- Wipes and backups. Decide how often you want to wipe, and pick a host that makes scheduled wipes and restores simple.
- Quick updates. Renown is in Early Access and patches often. The server has to match the client, so a host that updates fast avoids players being locked out.
- DDoS protection and location. Public PvP servers attract attacks, and melee timing suffers with high ping, so choose a datacentre close to your players.

Renown server hosting FAQ
How many players can a Renown server hold?
Official servers allow up to 100 players. On a community server you set the limit in the config, and larger populations need a stronger plan.
Is Renown still in Early Access?
Yes. It launched into Early Access in September 2025 and is still being updated.
Can I set my own wipe schedule?
Yes, on a community server. You decide when to wipe, and a host with backups and easy file access makes it quick.
Can I host a Renown server for free?
Yes. The dedicated server is a free download through SteamCMD and runs on Windows or Linux. It is only online while that machine is running, so groups who want a server up around the clock usually rent one.
