Hosting a Broke Protocol server
Broke Protocol is a free-to-play, open-world city roleplaying sandbox with jobs, NPCs, apartments, garages and gangs. Everything from guns, clothing and vehicles to the server's rules can be customised, and the voxel world is destructible.
The game is built around community-run servers that are fully scriptable and loaded with custom content. The developer says a server supports over 100 online players alongside dynamic NPCs, and it supplies a Unity resources package and guides for making your own content. Some communities run complete overhauls with war or apocalyptic themes.
What to compare
- Slots and CPU. With 100 or more players and live NPCs on one server, compare CPU and memory, not just the slot count.
- Mod and plugin uploads. Custom content is the point of most servers. Check you get file access or FTP to upload assets and scripts.
- Backups. Player progress, property and economies build up over months. Automatic backups protect your community.
- Location. Choose a datacentre near most of your players to keep driving and combat smooth.
