Hosting a Onset server
Onset is an open world multiplayer sandbox from Blue Mountains, in Steam Early Access since December 2019. It has no fixed goals: server owners write game modes in Lua using the functions in the developer wiki, and players join the modes other communities have built.
According to its Steam page, Onset supports dedicated multiplayer servers of up to 300 players, and you can host your own server with your own scripts. The store page shows no developer update for several years, so check the game still suits your plans before committing to a long contract.
What to compare
- File access for scripts. Your Lua scripts and packages live on the server, so full file access is essential.
- CPU for busy servers. Script-heavy role-play servers with many players need strong single-core speed.
- Monthly billing. With development quiet, shorter terms keep you flexible.
- Location. Pick a datacentre near most of your players.
