Stardew Valley is a farming life sim from ConcernedApe, released in 2016. On PC, up to 8 players can share one farm: the host plus 7 farmhands, each of whom needs their own cabin. Players join through Steam friends, an invite code or the host's IP address.
In the standard game the host must be online with the farm open, or farmhands cannot reach the world or their characters. That is the main reason groups rent a server: it keeps the farm open so everyone can play on their own schedule.
