Hosting a Ymir server

Ymir is a multiplayer 4X strategy game and city builder from Thibaud Michaud, in which each player grows a civilisation of pigmen from the stone age. It has been in Steam Early Access since March 2019.

Multiplayer runs on local or persistent servers. In persistent mode the server is left running around the clock, even when players are offline, while real-time mode suits a few friends who all play at once. Persistent mode is where a rented server earns its place.

What to compare

  • Uptime. Persistent worlds need a server that never sleeps. Look at uptime and support response.
  • Backups. Civilisations grow over weeks. Automatic backups protect them.
  • Settings access. Check you can choose between persistent and real-time play and edit server settings.
  • Location. Pick a datacentre near most of your players.
